A skin expert based in the United States claims we shouldn’t “wash” our “face every day.”
One day it’s “we shouldn’t take baths every day;” the next, it’s not even washing our face daily. A skin expert who calls herself the “skin whisperer” is going viral on TikTok for making the claim that people shouldn’t clean their faces daily. The expert’s name is Nicole Caroline, and she’s an aesthetician from Greenwich, Connecticut.
In the eight-second clip, which has now garnered millions of viewers, Caroline is seen spinning in a swivel chair while singing: “Don’t wash your face in the morning, unless you have acne, please stop doing it. Thank you.” She says all a person needs to do is use “cool water” for a “simple rinse” of the face.
After receiving some backlash, Caroline came back on the platform to provide more context. “If you are cleansing properly at night, there is no reason to use cleanser on your face again in the morning,” she said.
“All you need is a rinse with cool water or ice and to pat dry,” Caroline explained. “A lot of the comments were from people saying their skin was too oily to ever cut out washing in the morning. However, what they don’t realize is they are causing more oil production by over-cleansing and trying to ‘wash’ the oil away.”
She went on to say: “We want to create balance and homeostasis. Destroying your acid mantle by cleansing multiple times a day is definitely not the way to go about that. You should also be double cleansing at night. This will begin to balance your oil production, so you will not feel the need to cleanse again in the morning.” She mentioned that it’s generally important to just “listen” to your skin to see and feel what it may need.
