The son of afrobeats star Davido has reportedly died.
A police spokesman confirmed to the BBC that 3-year-old Ifeanyi Adeleke drowned in a swimming pool at the artist’s parents’ residence in the Banana Island area of Lagos State.
The incident reportedly happened Monday night, only a few days after the toddler’s third birthday. A Lagos police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed that eight members of the singer’s domestic staff have been taken in for questioning.
“If after they all give their own account of what happened and after preliminary investigations, if anyone of them is found culpable, the person will now be placed under arrest,” Hundeyin told the Nigerian newspaper Daily Post.
Davido, whose real name is David Adeleke, is one of the most popular and recognizable Afrobeats stars. He has collaborated with international artists like Chris Brown, Lil Baby and Nicki Minaj.
The singer and his fianceé, social media influencer and chef Chioma Rowland have not commented on their son’s tragic drowning.
Fans and artists worldwide have taken to social media to send their heartfelt condolences to the couple.
