‘Wheel of Fortune’ is getting a spin-off but for kids instead.
On Thursday, Sony Pictures Television revealed its intention to develop a spin-off version of the famous game show “Wheel of Fortune.” The proposed show will be specifically designed to cater to children and younger viewers, with challenges tailored to their interests.
“There’s such a vast history at Sony Pictures Television with properties that we could play around with and reinvent, introducing a whole new generation of kids to them,” Joe D’Ambrosia, executive VP and general manager of SPT said.
Although specific details about the game show remain uncertain, reports indicate that a variety of physical and comedic challenges will be incorporated into the format. As the contestants complete the challenges, they will get a chance to accumulate letters as they progress.
However, once fans learned about the upcoming game show, they revealed this was not the first time they tried to cater to a younger audience.
“Correction on your Kids’ Wheel of Fortune article,” one fan tweeted. “There was in fact a kids’ version of WOF before. It was called “Wheel 2000” and it aired on CBS on Saturday mornings in 1997 and 98. Some episodes are on YouTube.”
Another Twitter user added, “As a child of the 90s I remember another time they tried to make a kid version of Wheel of Fortune.”
Nevertheless, the spin-off doesn’t have a premiere date as of yet.
