The State Department announced it is reviewing the records of more than 55 million foreigners who currently hold valid U.S. visas. Officials say the move is part of “continuous vetting,” meaning any new information that points to a visa violation or potential security threat could trigger revocation.
The review covers a wide range of potential issues, including overstaying visas, committing crimes, threats to public safety, or having ties to terrorist groups. That even extends to monitoring social media accounts and pulling records from law enforcement both in the U.S. and abroad.
Since Trump returned to the White House, his administration has doubled down on immigration enforcement. The State Department revealed that more than 6,000 student visas have already been revoked this year, with reasons ranging from overstays and DUIs to terrorism-related concerns.
Roughly 4,000 of those cases involved breaking U.S. laws, while about 200 to 300 were tied to terrorism support.
