Actor Steven Seagal has joined a pro-Vladimir Putin Russian political party.
On Saturday, the “Hard to Kill” star was inducted into the A Just Russia, Patriots For Truth party during a ceremony. In a video released by the party this Saturday, the new group stated it comes as a combination of three smaller parties that all support Putin.
Seagal’s endorsement of Russia and Putin dates back several years when the actor supported the 2014 invasion and annexation of Crimea, located in Ukraine. The New York Post reports Seagal gained Russian citizenship in November 2016. In August 2018, Moscow’s Foreign Ministry appointed him to the unpaid position of “special representative for Russian-US humanitarian ties.”
On Saturday, Seagal spoke out about putting an end to businesses harming the environment.
“Without being able to arrest people, when we just fine them, they are probably making more money off the production of the things that are defiling the environment,” the actor said, Reuters reports.
