A New York man was arrested on Saturday for an unprovoked attack on “Honey, I Shrunk The Kids” star Rick Moranis last month.
NBC News reports that Marquis Ventura, 35, was apprehended in the area where the attack occurred after being spotted by transit officers in the subway. He was arrested for assault in the second degree.
Security video of the attack shows a man in an “I Love NY” sweatshirt punch Moranis, 67, and walk away. Moranis fell to the ground from the punch and later went to the hospital for evaluation. The attack appears unprovoked.
Police did not identify Moranis as the assault victim in the attack. Instead, a spokesman for the actor confirmed he was assaulted outside of his Upper West Side building.
“He is fine but grateful for everyone’s thoughts and well wishes,” spokesman Troy Bailey said.
Moranis is best known for his roles in the films “Little Shop of Horrors,” “Ghostbusters,” and the “Honey, I Shrunk The Kids” franchises.
He returned to the screen after a 20-year acting hiatus in September for a new Mint Mobile commercial alongside Ryan Reynolds. He is slated to reprise his role of scientist Wayne Szalinski in the forthcoming “Honey, I Shrunk The Kids” sequel, “Shrunk.”
Thanks to an eagle-eyed sergeant from @NYPDTransit, this suspect has been apprehended and charged. https://t.co/cKtkgzc3vU
