Suspect In Custody After Opening Fire In A Virginia Walmart And Leading Police On A High Speed Chase

A man is in custody after opening fire in a Virginia Walmart, injuring a sheriff’s deputy and two bystanders.

According to a Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office statement, the incident began when two loss prevention officers tried to escort a suspected shoplifter to an office. The man, reported to be in his early 20s, according to WJLA, pulled a gun during a struggle and started shooting. He hit both loss prevention officers and one of the two deputies who had arrived on the scene. All of the injuries are non-life-threatening.

CNN reports that one of the deputies returned fire, striking the suspect, who fled.

“I don’t know what the injuries were, certainly not severe enough to keep him from running and jumping into a truck and driving away,” Loudoun County Sheriff Michael Chapman said.

The Fairfax County Police Department apprehended the suspect after a car chase when the man eventually crashed the truck he was driving. According to the outlet, the man was taken to the hospital, and charges are pending.
