Today, Grammy-Award-winning singer and songwriter SZA celebrates her 35th birthday, and fans across the globe are sending her well wishes.
Born Solána Imani Rowe, SZA’s unique fusion of R&B, hip-hop, and sprinkles of neo-soul has built her a reputation as one of this generation’s most compelling storytellers. Since breaking into the scene with mixtapes like “See.SZA.Run” and “S” before her successful 2017 commercial debut album “Ctrl,” SZA has garnered widespread acclaim for hits like “Love Galore,” “The Weekend,” and “Broken Clocks.” However, one of the project’s most compelling records is the vulnerable “20 Something,” which highlights the complexities of being in your twenties all while highlighting that they’ll soon come to an end. The album, which eventually went triple platinum, was a critical and commercial success, earning SZA five Grammy nominations, including Best New Artist.
In 2023, SZA followed up with her highly anticipated sophomore project, “SOS,” which skyrocketed to the top of the charts and stayed there for an impressive ten consecutive weeks. The album was both a commercial milestone in SZA’s career, featuring hit singles such as “Kill Bill” and “Snooze,” which earned a Grammy for Best R&B Song, with the album as a whole winning Best Progressive R&B Album.
Additionally, SZA has written for some of music’s biggest names such as Beyonce and Rihanna. As SZA celebrates another year around the sun, it’s only right that we highlight a few of her best musical contributions.
