A teenager has turned himself in for the brutal slaying of dancer O’Shae Sibley.
The youngster, whose identity has not yet been released, arrived at a Brooklyn police station on Friday to face charges for the hate-fueled murder. Sibley was among a group of men dancing to Beyoncé’s “Renaissance” at a Mobil station in the Midwood neighborhood of Brooklyn last weekend when another group of guys approached them. The opposite pack shouted gay slurs at them and demanded they stop voguing to the music. An argument erupted, and Sibley is said to have tried to calm the situation. Unfortunately, things took a deadly turn, and he was stabbed in the torso. His friends sprang into action to save his life by applying pressure to his wounds before he was transported to the hospital. He was sadly pronounced dead soon after.
Detectives have been investigating his death as a hate crime, mainly due to the reports of anti-LGBTQIA comments that the attackers made toward the men. Beyoncé shared a rest-in-peace message on her website after news spread of his senseless death. One witness, Summy Ullah, shed light on what led to Sibley’s death, claiming that the aggressors argued that the men being gay and dancing went against their Muslim faith.
Sibley has been a dancer for years, performing with Philadelphia-based dance company Philadanco as well as in New York. He has appeared in several music videos and has been involved in several shows at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts.
