Tesla is recalling 46,096 Cybertrucks in the U.S. due to a detaching exterior panel, raising safety concerns for drivers and other vehicles on the road. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the issue poses a risk of crashes if the panel comes loose while driving.
The recall covers almost all Cybertrucks produced up until February, meaning that the vast majority of Tesla’s futuristic pickups could be impacted. Since Tesla doesn’t release Cybertruck sales numbers, analysts believe this recall affects most of the vehicles on the road today.
This recall is another challenge for Tesla, which has already lost nearly half its stock value in 2024 due to increased competition, an aging lineup, and backlash against CEO Elon Musk’s political involvement, particularly his role in shaping federal budget cuts under Trump’s White House.
Tesla will replace the faulty trim assembly for free at its service centers. Owners can check their VIN on the NHTSA website or contact Tesla directly to see if their vehicle is included in the recall.
