Teyana Taylor Reveals Emergency Vocal Cord Surgery — But Says Her Album Is Still Coming

Teyana Taylor has revealed she is stepping away from scheduled appearances after doctors discovered a noncancerous growth on her vocal cord that now requires immediate surgery.

The singer opened up about her condition on Instagram, explaining why her fans will not see her in person for a while.

The diagnosis comes after what she described as months of discomfort and vocal strain.

“I have been quietly dealing with some vocal challenges for a while now,” Taylor explained. “And after a lot of back and forth with my doctors, I have been told I need vocal surgery immediately.”

The growth, although benign, has affected her ability to perform and communicate, leading to the difficult decision to cancel public engagements, including a planned appearance on Michelle Obama’s podcast at Martha’s Vineyard.

“It breaks my heart,” she wrote, expressing how deeply she was invested in this next chapter of her work.

Taylor spoke openly about her frustration with the timing. She shared that she had been preparing to release new music and a visual project before her health forced her to slow down.

“Just as I was getting ready to finally share this with you, life handed me my own unexpected escape room,” she said. “One I did not ask for, but one I now have to find my way out of with patience, rest, and faith.”

Even with the sudden pause in her schedule, Taylor confirmed that her new album and short film, “Escape Room,” will still be released on August 22nd.

She called the project her passion and reminded fans that her heart is still in the work.

“Please know I put my whole heart into this music, this film, this rollout,” she said. “And when I return, it will be with even more fire, more purpose, and the best version of me.”

She closed her message by thanking her supporters.

“Thank you for rocking with me through it all,” she wrote. “For the grace, the love, and the space to heal. I cannot wait to be on the other side of this, stronger, softer, and singing again.”
