Lamborghini has announced that it will debut its fully electric vehicle by 2030.
The Italian luxury car company announced the news on Tuesday. The vehicle is a part of its push to decarbonize future Lambo models. The company will transition to manufacturing hybrid models within the upcoming years before it officially launches the fully electric car.
“Lamborghini’s electrification plan is a newly-plotted course, necessary in the context of a radically changing world, where we want to make our contribution by continuing to reduce environmental impact through concrete projects,” said Stephan Winkelmann, Automobili Lamborghini’s President and CEO.
The company’s “roadmap” to environmentally-friendly vehicles consists of three phases. The first phase will occur in 2021 and 2022 and will focus on combustion engine models with two new automobiles in the V12 model line-up. They will be announced later this year. The second phase will take place towards the end of 2024 and will be the “hybrid transition” to ensure that the “entire range will be electrified.” In the third phase, Lamborghini will launch its first fully electric Lamborghini.
This move will be supported by an “unprecedented investment” of over 1.5 billion euros ($1.83 billion) designated over four years. This marks the most significant investment in the company’s history.
