The Baller Alert Show – Ep. 231: Sean Garrett Joins the Cast to Discuss His Career and Writing for Usher & Beyoncè

Baller Alert! Welcome to the Baller Alert Show Podcast, available everywhere you get your podcast. On this episode, singer and songwriter Sean Garett is joined by Ferrari, OCT and BT to discuss Sean Garrett’s career, writing for Usher and Beyoncè and his career as an artist.

“What are you guys’ thoughts on the LSU Jill Biden controversy?” asked Ferrari.

“That was my first time ever watching a woman’s basketball game, and it was a good game,” said BT.

According to the cast, the controversy started because Jill Biden invited both teams to the White House despite only one team winning, which was LSU.

“I don’t think both teams should have been invited. I think LSU looked at it like a slap in the face,” said BT.

“This is the most I’ve seen a women’s game be covered. I was locked in,” said BT.

“Marques Houston said he met his wife when she was 17 but did not pursue her until she was 18. He is 20 years older than her.” shared Ferrari.

“People keep talking about it because R. Kelly is in jail,” said BT.

The cast agreed that Marques Houston should not have been dating someone 20 years younger than him. OCT referred to it as “Grooming.”

“Shout out to you and the Dream. You guys were the first original Versuz,” said Ferrari.

“I think the viral moment came from Sean being Tipsy,” said OCT.

“I was actually out of it. I had gone to the dentist,” said Garrett.

“What really turned it up is that Swizzy sent me a commercial. He was saying, ‘I’m the culture. You’re not the culture,” said Garrett.

Sean Garrett went against OCT, listing his #1 songs.

“I got more hot 100 #1’s than him, ” Sean Garrett said.

“Sean Garrett, where are you from?” asked Ferrari.

Garrett shared that he moved to Europe at five years old.

“I signed my first record deal when I was 14. I came back to the States to sign a new deal. My deal fell through,” shared Garrett.

Garrett shared that he didn’t want to write songs for other people. Losing his mom caused him to realize that life was short, and he began writing for other artists.

Garrett shared his experience working with Usher and Beyoncè.

“She’s super smart,” said Garrett. “Whenever I got around her, I was trying to do the craziest shit possible.”

Garrett shared that working on Beyoncè’s Bday album consisted of a rented studio with multiple rooms and multiple songwriters and producers.

“When I’m working, I focus on the person that is driving. If Beyoncè is driving, that’s who I’m paying attention to,” said Garrett.

Garrett also showed how artists react to media and public comments regarding their music. He shared his experience working with Summer Walker creating her last album, “Still OverIt.”

“I have a niche, and my niche is just trying to do #1 records,” shared Garrett.

“I have to ask you a question, though. Where the hell is the money at? How do you bank on getting paid? How do you get paid?” asked Ferrari.

“All of these people make money off the source, which is the source. How do you bust money down from a song? These different components matter,” said Garrett.

“I always do my shit by myself. When you try to collaborate with people, shit gets messy,” said Garrett.

Garrett shared that he’s working on a podcast and that he’ll be sharing the name of his podcast with Baller Alert first.

“If there has been anything, that shit really fucks with you sometimes. When people don’t appreciate your talent or your gift,” said Garrett.

“I appreciate you just getting to know your story,” said OCT.

“I lost the human side of me at times because I couldn’t focus on being human. I had to be a machine,” said Garrett.

He shared that he is now taking the time to allow himself to be appreciated.
