The Bidens are bringing in a new puppy along with a cat.
On Monday, the First Family welcomed a furry friend in a German Shepard that they’ve named Commander. Come January, the family will also bring in a cat for the First Lady. According to U.S. News, Jill Biden was promised the cat more than a year ago.
The new pets come after their older furry friend Major got caught up in a couple of biting incidents. The news outlet reports that he will be sent to live in a more calm environment with friends.
“After consulting with dog trainers, animal behaviorists, and veterinarians, the First Family has decided to follow the experts’ collective recommendation that it would be safest for Major to live in a quieter environment with family friends,” said Jill Biden’s spokesperson Michael LaRosa said in an emailed statement to U.S. News. “This is not in reaction to any new or specific incident, but rather a decision reached after several months of deliberation as a family and discussions with experts.”
The puppy comes as a gift from Joe Biden’s brother and sister-in-law. “Welcome to the White House, Commander,” read a tweet from Biden’s official Twitter account. The tweet also shows a short video of Biden throwing the 3-month-old puppy a ball and walking him on a leash. The new pup’s name is reportedly a play on Biden’s role as commander-in-chief.
