The Black Census Project is on a mission to improve the way our communities across the nation are served.
First launched in 2018, the Black Futures Lab’s Black Census Project was created to address a gap between what politicians believed mattered to Black voters and issues Black voters really cared about. This year, a very important midterm election year, the organization aims to survey 200,000 Black Americans about political leaders, American institutions, and problems impacting the Black community, as well as their level of civic engagement. Upon completion, it will be the largest survey of Black people conducted in American history.
Several key issues are addressed in the survey, including generational oppression, mass incarceration, police violence, and inequities in healthcare and economic access. The goal is to use the information gathered to guide the priorities and positions of the Biden-Harris administration, elected officials, and cabinets and help them determine how much funding to place in our communities for things like emergency response, city planning, education, housing and more.
The survey, which only takes a few minutes to complete, can be found at BlackCensus.org.
Join us and take The Black Census by November 30 – it can impact us for years to come.
