The Spice Girls are heading to the big screen in an animated feature film.
According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, Paramount Animation is in the early stages of development for a new Spice Girls movie. The movie will include all five members of the original group — Melanie Brown (Scary), Emma Bunton (Baby), Melanie Chisholm (Sporty), Geri Halliwell (Ginger) and Victoria Beckham (Posh).
The animated feature will include the ‘90s group’s classics as well as new songs. The Spice Girls “had an idea that we’ve been developing,” Soria tells The Hollywood Reporter. “They are very involved.”
Simon Fuller (So You Think You Can Dance) will produce, with screenwriting duo Karen McCullah and Kiwi Smith writing the screenplay. The film is a part of Paramount’s upcoming animated feature slate, which includes The SpongeBob Movie: It’s a Wonderful Sponge (May 2020) and Rumble (July 2020), according to Polygon. The film is based on Rob Harrell’s graphic novel Monster on a Hill.
Production is looking to release the film sometime in 2020 or later.
