Three staff members at a residential facility in Michigan have been charged for last year’s death of 16-year-old Cornelius Fredericks.
Heather McLogan, 48, Michael Mosley, 47, and Zachary Solis, 28, were charged with child abuse and involuntary manslaughter. They were released on a $500,000 bond.
Fredericks was a resident at the Lakeside Academy, which is a residential treatment facility for teens. According to prosecutors, two staff members laid across Fredericks’ body while he was being restrained. Fredericks went into cardiac arrest and died at a hospital two days later.
According to PEOPLE, more staff members may have been involved, and there is still potential for additional charges.
Anastase Markou, McLogan’s lawyer, told CNN that her client voluntarily surrendered on Wednesday and was released on a personal bond.
Solis’ attorney, Don Sappanos, could not be reached for comment by the outlet. Sappanos previously told CNN that his client was following procedure.Â
Kiana Garrity, Mosley’s lawyer, told CNN that her client entered a plea of not guilty. Garrity said her client was also following protocol at all times.
The owners of Lakeside Academy, Sequel Youth, and Family Services, previously told CNNÂ that the staff members used improper restraint.Â
