Three people were injured, and a teenager was killed after someone opened fire at an annual Juneteenth music festival in Washington, D.C.
This past Sunday night, three adults, including one police officer, was injured during a shooting that took place after “Moechella,” an annual concert that celebrates Juneteenth. The concert was located in downtown Washington, D.C.
Along with the three adults, there was another victim, a teen boy, who was fatally shot and killed. The three adults included two civilians and a police officer. The three injured victims were all taken to a local hospital, where they were said to be recovering and in stable condition.
Police say the event was shut down after a few incidents, including a physical altercation, happened earlier in the evening. Afterward, the concert was considered “unsafe,” said Contee. Insider reports a number of people were “trampled” as people tried to escape the violence. Police obtained several firearms at the event after the shooting.
According to Metropolitan Police Department Chief Robert J. Contee III, the festival was an “unpermitted” event that the city didn’t clear for approval. The concerts have been around since 2019, but there are no details on whether previous concerts were also unauthorized.
No suspect has been arrested, and there are no details on a possible motive.
