Tiffany Haddish Opens Up About DUI and Recent Struggles With ‘Grief’

Tiffany Haddish opens up about being arrested for driving under the influence in Georgia and her recent struggles with “grief.”

Earlier this month, Peachtree City officers in Atlanta responded to a 911 call that a “driver was asleep at the wheel on Hwy 74.” That driver turned out to be comedian and actress Tiffany Haddish. The star, who had been handling the brunt of several hardships, including her public breakup with rapper Common and the loss of her grandmother, sat down virtually on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and explained the tragic night she was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence.

“I’ve been praying to God to send me a new man, a good man. God went ahead and sent me four in a uniform,” said Haddish, ET Online reports. “I wasn’t expecting it. I was not expecting that at all. Now, I’ve got a really great lawyer, and we’re going to work it out. I’ve got to get my asking of things to God a little better.”

Haddish, 42, also expounded on how she’s been dealing with the death of longtime actor and comedian Bob Saget, who passed Jan. 9. She says she was one of the first people in the industry to encourage her to be herself.

“He was the first white man to ever tell me, ‘Just be yourself, just be who you are, Tiffany. Don’t worry about nothing, just be you,'” Haddish said of the late Saget.” And that was huge for me. And then my grandma passed away and she saved my life, that’s my heart, she was like my soulmate. So that’s been really hard to process, all this grief.”

Despite it all, Haddish says she’s pushing through the pain and mentioned that her next comedy special will be about “grief.”

“Oh, I’m definitely making something out of it. My next special is gonna be about grief,” said Haddish. “It’s gonna be hilarious. Figuring out how to process it.”
