Tiger Woods is now facing legal consequences following last month’s crash in Florida, with prosecutors officially filing DUI charges tied to the incident.
The legendary golfer was charged Tuesday with driving under the influence and refusing to take a chemical or physical test. Both counts are classified as misdemeanors, but the situation adds another layer to what was already a troubling moment for the athlete.
Authorities say the March 27 incident unfolded when Woods allegedly sped down a street before clipping another vehicle and rolling his Range Rover. According to law enforcement, a pickup truck was turning into a driveway when Woods struck it. Officers on the scene reported “severe signs of impairment” and later found two hydrocodone pills in his pocket.
While the charges move forward, Woods has already acknowledged the seriousness of the situation and publicly addressed his next steps. “I know and understand the seriousness of the situation I find myself in today,” he said.
“I am stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health. This is necessary in order for me to prioritize my well-being and work toward lasting recovery.”
He continued, “I’m committed to taking the time needed to return in a healthier, stronger, and more focused place, both personally and professionally. I appreciate your understanding and support, and ask for privacy for my family, loved ones and myself at this time.”
