TikTok is challenging Twitter and Instagram’s Threads by introducing a fresh feature that enables users to include text posts.
The popular video platform is now capitalizing on an opportunity arising from Elon Musk’s Twitter. The billionaire’s recent peculiar decisions since acquiring the platform have created a chance for TikTok to make its move.
“Today we’re thrilled to announce the expansion of text posts on TikTok,” the company said. “A new format for creating text-based content that broadens options for creators to share their ideas and express their creativity. With text posts, we’re expanding the boundaries of content creation for everyone on TikTok, giving the written creativity we’ve seen in comments, captions, and videos a dedicated space to shine.”
Text posts on TikTok bear a striking resemblance to Instagram Stories in terms of visual presentation. Additionally, users have the ability to customize their text with background colors, text styles, and incorporate music and stickers into the post. Notably, there is a character limit of 1,000 for these posts. Furthermore, other users can interact with these text posts in a manner similar to how they engage with videos by stitching, dueting, and leaving comments.
The timing of TikTok’s decision to introduce support for text posts is hardly surprising, considering Twitter’s recent questionable decisions. TikTok appears to be offering an alternative option for users who wish to share text-based content. Meta took a similar approach with the launch of its Threads app.
