The forthcoming series, titled “Iron Mike,” will follow Tyson’s personal and professional life, including the many controversies and career-defining moments. Craig Gillespie and Steven Rogers have been tapped to direct and write the mini-series. Karin Gist, who works on “Mixed-ish,” will executive produce and show run. Actress Margot Robbie will also executive produce.
The Hulu biopic is the latest Mike Tyson project to be announced. Legendary actor, singer, and comedian Jamie Foxx announced in March that he was gearing up to portray Tyson in a Martin Scorsese-produced and Antoine Fuqua-directed limited series. Though it has not yet found a home, the former boxer is heavily involved in the film’s development. However, he has publicly criticized “Iron Mike” and slammed Hulu for their “unauthorized mini-series of the Tyson story without compensation.”
Despite the backlash, Hulu is moving forward with the series and a slew of other biographical films.
“Biographical pictures are a fan favorite and a staple of the movie and television business, and frequently the subjects are not involved,” said ABC Entertainment and Hulu Originals president Craig Erwich.
