Linda McMahon, a long-time ally of Donald Trump and a familiar face in his political orbit, has been named as his pick for Education Secretary. McMahon, who previously served in Trump’s first administration for two years at SBA, and supported his campaigns, has an unconventional background that sets her apart from traditional cabinet appointees.
McMahon, married to Vince McMahon, played a pivotal role in transforming World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) into a cultural phenomenon and a dominant force in professional wrestling. The company, founded by Vince’s father, became a household name under their leadership, blending athleticism and entertainment in a way that captivated audiences worldwide.
Her connection to Trump predates politics, going back to his guest appearances at WWE events. One of the most notable moments came during WrestleMania 23 in 2007, where Trump participated in a storyline feud with Vince McMahon. The drama culminated with Trump shaving Vince’s head in the center of the wrestling ring—a spectacle that drew global attention.
McMahon stepped away from her role as WWE’s chief executive to pursue a career in public service. She ran twice for a U.S. Senate seat in Connecticut, first in 2010 against Richard Blumenthal and again in 2012 against Chris Murphy. Despite significant campaign funding and national attention, she lost both races.
In her new position, McMahon will oversee the Department of Education, tasked with shaping the nation’s educational policies. While her background in entertainment and business is unconventional for the role, her supporters argue that her leadership experience and ability to think outside the box could bring a fresh perspective to the department.
Critics, however, have questioned her qualifications for the position, pointing to her lack of direct experience in education. She received her BA in French from East Carolina Univ. As McMahon prepares to step into the role, she faces the challenge of winning over skeptics and tackling pressing issues like student loan reform, curriculum development, and school funding.
While her nomination has sparked debate, one thing is clear: Linda McMahon’s journey from wrestling rings to political arenas continues to be anything but ordinary.
