Twitter Reacts To CNN Banning Anchors From Drinking Alcoholic Beverages During Its New Year’s Eve Special

CNN has revealed that anchors will no longer be allowed to drink alcoholic beverages during its annual New Year’s Eve special.

If you were expecting to get lit on New Year’s Eve with the CNN anchors, you might want to rethink your plans. On Tuesday, the network’s CEO, Chris Licht, announced that anchors and correspondents will not be allowed to drink on or off camera this NYE.

Licht seemingly implied the decision to halt the drinking was due to last year’s coverage. If you recall, the special showed Anderson Cooper battling uncontrollable laughter and Don Lemon in a more “loosened” fashion. Licht claims the 2022 coverage damaged CNN’s credibility that resulted in the loss of “respectability” from viewers.

It’s unclear if Anderson’s usual co-host Andy Cohen will have to abide by the new rules. However, he did apologize for his behavior days after the 2022 coverage and admitted to being “a bit overserved.”

Twitter users caught wind of the rule change and quickly expressed their issues with the announcement. See below what users had to say.

This us why CNN said no more drinking on NYE lol https://t.co/hiQ8AFIuzi

Omfg @CNN let your on-air talent get plastered on NYE!!!! That’s the only reason people (not me I always have plans) even watch!

You’re telling me that @cnn anchors won’t be able to drink during the NYE coverage…? Don’t take this away from me. It’s the one night a year I feel like your anchors are actual people who have lives outside of the newsroom. ❤️

Not y’all using Don Lemon as the face of CNN’s NYE drinking problem. 😭 Them white ppl be lit too.

Why else would I watch CNN on NYE?? 😂 There’s literally no other reason than to watch Don Lemon and Anderson Cooper let their hair down

If CNN correspondents can’t drink on their NYE broadcast, what are they going to do? Report the news?

Cut back on the drinking??? And rob us of our NYE shenanigans?!?! F*** right off 😆 PARTY HARDER THAN EVER BEFORE @Andy #WWHL #CNN pic.twitter.com/XORFjTl66o

CNN really think we're going to tune into their channel on NYE without drunk Don Lemon? pic.twitter.com/JkjqVBT2b0

I love how we're collectively upset with CNN for not allowing Don Lemon to be drunk on NYE.

We've tolerated a lot of things but this won't stand!

What's NYE without a drunk Don Lemon and a giggling Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen with no filter. CNN you working my last nerve
