Two California assistant principals in Rialto have been hit with felony charges after allegedly failing to report sexual assaults on the school’s campus.
Carter High School assistant principals David Shenhan Yang, 38, and Natasha Harris, 37, have been charged with felony child abuse and two counts of failure to report child abuse or neglect. Both Harris and Yang were told about sexual assault incidents that allegedly happened at the school, but they allegedly never reported them to law enforcement. ABC 7 reports the two were arrested at the school on Wednesday and are being held on a $150,000 bail.
The issue came about back in February after a 17-year-old female student was sexually assaulted for months. The victim told officers that she’d reported the assault to Yang and Harris three months prior to the police department’s investigation, which started in November 2021, ABC 7 reports.
In September 2021, another student went to Yang and Harris about being sexually assaulted, and again, the two allegedly never reported it to the police. The 17-year-old allegedly responsible is facing several counts of sexual battery.
In a statement, Rialto Unified School District said it would be investigating the matter.
“The District will continue its internal investigation until all the facts related to this matter are brought to light. We will also continue to work with local authorities as they conduct their own investigation,” the statement reads.
