With the first TV screening of his Madea’s Farewell Play and The Oval’s Season 2 opener on February 16th, Tyler Perry has helped BET regain Tuesday as a successful night of original programming.
In the simulcast across BET and BET Her, Madea’s Farewell Play attracted 1.2 million combined viewers. On the two networks, the Oval averaged 1.5 million viewers and 1.4 million on BET alone. That was down from the Season 1 finale record high (3.2 million across BET and BET Her).
The Oval was the No. 1 show for Black audiences by adults from age range 18-49 and 25-54 and overall viewers on all television premiere nights. From Live+Same Day to Live+3, both The Oval and Madea’s Farewell Play increased their viewership by double digits in delayed viewing.
Season 3 of The Oval is expected to begin development later this year at Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta. It joins Tyler Perry’s Sistas, which was recently renewed by BET for a third season as well.
