Tyrese claims that the recent actors’ strike and no recent Fast & Furious franchise movie role prevent him from meeting his child support obligations.
On Tuesday, Tyrese petitioned the court to dismiss his ex-wife Samantha Lee’s attempt to hold him in contempt, as per RadarOnline.
Earlier this year, Lee claimed Tyrese hadn’t fulfilled his obligation to pay the full $10,000 per month as ordered. Instead, she said he paid her less than half in December 2023 and January 2024. She cited his numerous overseas trips as evidence that he had the funds but chose not to allocate them for child support.
However, Tyrese’s lawyer contends that the actor’s income has significantly declined in recent years due to the absence of recent Fast & Furious movies.
“The years in which he films [a Fast & Furious] franchise movie, his income is the highest in those years,” his attorney argued. “In 2022, [Gibson] filmed the franchise movie in question, and he has not filmed any segment in that franchise movie since 2022. Consequently, [Gibson’s] income has fluctuated downward since the trial in this case, and as expected, [Gibson] does not earn the same amount that he earned in August 2022.”
Tyrese’s lawyer asserted that his income declined due to the absence of recent Fast & Furious movies and the 2023 Hollywood strikes. Additionally, he defended Tyrese’s vacations, explaining they were funded with miles and involved staying with friends abroad.
So far, a judge has yet to rule on the matter.
