Back in November, the UCLA men’s basketball team traveled to China for a game. However, during the trip, three players were arrested for allegedly shoplifting from a luxury brand store. The incident made national headlines and even sparked a Twitter war between the Celebrity-in-chief and the father of one of the arrested players.

In addition, the school also faced widespread criticisms for the players’ actions. In fact, according to the Huffington Post, in the days after the arrest, the university was plagued with hate mail.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
According to the publication, angry fans, alumni, and people who had absolutely no connection to the school at all, sent emails and letters to university Chancellor Gene Block filled with hateful messages about the three black players. While some tried to distinguish their anger from the blatant racism, others had no problem hurling racial slurs in their complaints.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“My decision is not based on the color of the skin of these thieves. Of my six grandchildren four are biracial,” one writer said, and no it was not Kris Jenner.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“Don’t surprise me you LOOK LIKE A FUDGPACKING F*GGOT ! YOU SHOULD BE SO PROUD, 3 MONKEYS GETTING FREEEEEE RIDE AND EMBARRASS YO SCHOOL BY ACTING LIKE THE N*GG*RS THEY APPARENTLY ARE,” another wrote.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“They have embarrassed their country as well as their race,” another note read, as reported by the Huffington Post. “They put shame on UCLA, their race and our country,” someone else said, while another claimed, “3 JERKS- DISGRACED THE COLLEGE-OUR COUNTRY AND THEIR RACE!”
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Some of the letters, which complete a collection of 637 pages of hate mail, were handwritten with proper grammar, while others were…., well, the opposite, filled with gross stereotypes and assumptions.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“I can only assume they have never been held accountable because they can shoot a ball into a basket,” one wrote, while another assumed the boys were experienced criminals. They claimed they weren’t worthy of their enrollment in the university, and also compared them to Harvey Weinstein.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“They are toxic to the school and the sport just like serial sex predator Harvey Weinstein who is now a Hollywood pariah,” one wrote.
