The U.S. Marshals Service has officially joined Miami police in the search for boxing star Gervonta Davis, escalating efforts to locate the former WBA lightweight champion after an active warrant was issued in Florida.
Authorities are attempting to track down Davis in connection with an alleged domestic violence incident reported in October. Investigators say Davis has been unreachable since the warrant was issued, prompting the involvement of the Marshals’ Fugitive Task Force. As the situation developed, the WBA named Davis champion in recess, signaling uncertainty around his immediate future in the sport.
The warrant is tied to allegations made by Davis’s former girlfriend, Courtney Rossell, who filed a civil lawsuit following an incident at a Miami nightclub on October 27. In her filing, Rossell alleges that Davis grabbed her from behind by the head, held her by the throat, and dragged her down stairs, through the kitchen, and out a rear exit. She also claims he assaulted her again in a nearby parking lot. Rossell stated their relationship had ended about a month before the alleged attack. Security camera footage from the venue reportedly supports her account.
Davis’s personal history reflects long-standing instability. As a child, he entered foster care after his mother lost custody due to drug use, while his father served prison time. He later lived with his grandmother after a turbulent upbringing marked by neighborhood violence, including a shooting incident when he was 15.
Legal trouble followed him into adulthood. Although assault charges from 2020 were dismissed, Davis was later arrested on domestic violence allegations in another case. He also pleaded guilty to multiple traffic offenses tied to a hit-and-run that injured four people, including a pregnant woman, and eventually served 44 days in jail.
Now, with authorities unable to locate him, Rossell’s attorney says efforts to resolve the case have stalled. “We sent our judicial officer to his home up to six times without success,” said Richard Wolfe, adding that attempts at cooperation were unsuccessful.
