Despite outside being open, entertainment reporter Catt Sadler reminds us that COVID-19 is very real after testing positive for the new strain despite being fully vaccinated.
The 46-year-old revealed that she tested positive for the “relentless” Delta variant of COVID-19 after caring for someone who had the virus though they thought that it was just the flu at the time. During her time looking after the individual, Sadler was fully vaccinated and wore a mask, though this was not enough to protect her against the highly transmissible strain.
“I assumed I would be fine. Well, I’m not. I’m one of many breakthrough cases that we are seeing more of each and every day,” Sadler wrote in a lengthy Instagram post.
The former E! host says that she has experienced extreme congestion, puss oozing from her eyes, fever, and fatigue. She is now urging people to continue wearing masks around large crowds and remaining vigilant.
Sadler’s case is considered a “breakthrough infection,” a COVID-19 infection that takes place despite being fully immunized. Though rare, 4,909 people in the United States have been hospitalized with breakthrough cases, with 988 dying as of July 6th. The Delta variant makes up over 31 percent of all COVID-19 cases currently in the country.
