A Maryland hairstylist is facing second-degree assault charges after a viral video showed her dragging a 15-year-old client through a salon over a payment dispute.

The video, which has amassed over 54 million views, shows 18-year-old Jayla Cunningham forcefully pulling the teen by her hoodie and cutting out the weave she had just installed. ”
Sit right here until somebody sends it. I’m not f***** playing. You just tried to f***** run. You lucky I ain’t beat the s*** out you,” Cunningham is heard saying.
Cunningham claims the girl attempted to leave without paying for the $150 service.
“She ran. Forget trash, she ran without paying me,” she told FOX 5. “I dragged her by her hood back into the salon until I could get paid or, you know, until the police come or until, you know, she let me take out the service.”
The victim’s mother disputes Cunningham’s account, saying her daughter mistakenly sent the payment to the wrong CashApp account and was trying to fix the issue. She says the girl is traumatized following the incident.
“She’s not good at all,” she stated.
Attorney De’Aja Thompson, representing the teen, called the video “horrendous.” Meanwhile, Cunningham, who says she has received death threats, was unaware of the charges until speaking with the news station.
She has been summoned to appear in court on April 18th.
