Wendy Williams was set to celebrate a positive health update on Wednesday, after renowned Mount Sinai neurologist Dr. Samuel Gandy reportedly cleared her of frontotemporal dementia aphasia. Friends had planned a special dinner to honor the “How You Doin” broadcaster, but the evening did not go as intended.
According to insiders, Williams was unable to attend because she could not reach her bodyguard.
“She couldn’t get in touch with her bodyguard. She thinks Sabrina [Morrissey] may have dismissed him,” a source told Page Six.
Under the rules of her guardianship, Williams is required to have a bodyguard when leaving her luxury living facility, which houses her on the memory unit floor. She may also leave the facility if her news anchor niece, Alex Finnie, visits from Miami, Florida. “She can’t go anywhere without Sabrina signing off, and [the bodyguard] being there,” the source said.
Sources suggest Morrissey, Williams’ guardian, may have intentionally dismissed the bodyguard. Despite the estate footing the bill, insiders claim, “[the guardian] has done this before. She’s fired a previous bodyguard. They don’t keep her in the loop. [Morrissey] doesn’t want her to go out.”
The dinner, scheduled at Max Tucci’s TUCCI restaurant in New York’s Noho neighborhood, included friend and comedian Luenell, Williams’ mentor from her early standup days, and Suzanne Bass, a former producer on “The Wendy Show.”
Although Williams was unable to attend in person, Luenell connected with her over the phone. During the call, Luenell said, “I was going to kiss you, hold your hand, all the s**t you don’t like,” and added, “I’m praying for you queen,” according to a source.
Williams replied that she hopes to introduce Luenell during one of her Las Vegas dates once her guardianship restrictions are lifted. “It was a sweet reunion, but would’ve been much better in person,” the source said.
Friends believe that Williams’ recent outings, including a trip to Connecticut for the wedding of power attorney Joe Tacopina’s son, “pissed off the Sabrina b***h.
Tacopina declined to comment on the specific claims regarding Morrissey and the bodyguard but stated that he believes, “Wendy is not being protected.” He added, “She’s being punished. What should’ve been a safeguard became a system of control that limited her voice, her choices, and her dignity. No guardianship should ever feel like a sentence.”
Morrissey has not spoken publicly about these allegations.
