Sorority members from predominately white Greek-lettered organization Omega Zeta Pi were caught mocking the culture of historically-Black Greek-lettered organization Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated.
In a video that has now made several rounds around the internet, white sorority members from Omega Zeta Pi were caught mocking the culture of Black sorority Zeta Phi Beta. The Omega Zeta Pi members attend Southern Connecticut State University (SCSU), MSN reports. In the video, the one member is seen trying to throw up Zetas’ hand sign, doing traditional Black Greek stances and mocking a Zeta stroll while other members cheered her on and laughed. In the background, the group was playing Capella Grey’s Gyalis.
On Tuesday, SCSU President Joe Bertolino sent out a statement saying the sorority was immediately suspended while an investigation ensues.
“I have the greatest respect for Zeta Phi Beta, Inc.’s heritage and traditions and am deeply concerned about the pain that this incident has caused to their membership and that of other Multicultural Greek Organisations, as well as individuals of colour across our campus community.”
He continued: “I hope that the concrete steps taken by my administration will advance the immediate and systemic changes needed to better support and protect students of color on our campus and rebuild the lines of trust within our diverse community.”
