A Florida woman worried about COVID-19 killing her family reportedly stabbed her husband and teenage daughter on Monday while baptizing her baby in a bathtub.
Miami-Dade police believe the incident was the result of a mental health crisis. When officers arrived at the home, they found the woman’s husband standing in the yard with stab wounds. They believe he was stabbed while trying to intervene.
The 15-month-old girl was found unresponsive in the bathtub after the “bizarre” baptism. She was taken to Jackson North Medical Center and pronounced dead.
The 38-year-old woman was discovered with what police are calling self-inflicted stab wounds still inside the house. Four other young children fled the home and ran to a neighbor’s.
Miami-Dade has not yet publicly released the baby’s cause of death. An autopsy is scheduled to be performed by the medical examiner’s office.
The woman, her husband, and their teenage daughter all remained hospitalized as of Tuesday. According to the Sun-Sentinel, police have not identified the woman or the victims but said the mother is in custody and facing “very serious criminal charges,” according to the Sun-Sentinel.
