Dallas rapper Yella Beezy is asking a judge to relax his house arrest restrictions so he can return to work while waiting for trial in the high-profile murder case of fellow artist Mo3.
Currently confined at home under electronic monitoring, Yella Beezy faces a capital murder charge after prosecutors alleged he orchestrated the 2020 killing on Interstate 35E in Oak Cliff. He was indicted in March, accused of hiring two men, Kewon Dontrell White and Devin Maurice Brown, to carry out the fatal ambush.
White is accused of chasing Mo3 on foot before opening fire in broad daylight. Investigators tied him to the scene through cellphone data and witness accounts, according to a 2020 arrest affidavit. His trial is scheduled for November 10. Brown was also indicted, though his role in the alleged plot has not been fully detailed by prosecutors.
As the case moves forward, Yella Beezy’s legal team is urging the court to allow him work release so he can support himself financially.
“He has missed multiple opportunities for employment in his field because of the home confinement restriction, which has put significant strain on his current financial obligations,” attorney John F. Gussio III wrote in a recent motion. “Given the [Yella Beezy’s] lack of violations and the condition that he maintain an ankle monitor is sufficient protection to the community.”
Gussio also said the rapper has already lost income from canceled studio sessions and missed collaborations, but declined to share specifics on future work plans.
