On Wednesday, YG unveiled his latest bag to be secured, a joint venture between his 4Hunnid label and Epic Records. The Sony Music company will release, distribute and market new music from the rapper’s Los Angeles-based independent label, exclusively, according to Complex.
“Me and my team have been doing innovative, legendary stuff for years—helping keep the West Coast alive. Now, Epic comes through at the best possible time with a platform for our expansion. I’m proud of this opportunity and will make the most of it.” YG explained in a statement.
Epic chairwoman and CEO Sylvia Rhone also expressed her satisfaction with the new deal, saying, “We at Epic are delighted by this joint venture with YG and his forward-thinking 4Hunnid brand. YG perfectly represents the new face of hip-hop music: versatile, creative, multifaceted, and steeped in history but versed in current trends. This marks an exciting addition to our roster and offerings.”
Up and coming Compton female rapper Day Sulan, who was featured on YG’s 2019 single “Her Story,” is set to be the first release under the partnership.
YG has been in the news a lot lately, with his on again-off again romance with Cali singer, Kehlani playing out in music and on social media. The pair got romantic on a Valentine’s Day track titled “Konclusions,” only for Kehlani to announce their split and drop a semi-diss track, “Valentine’s Day (Shameful)” just a few days after V-Day.
