Cortlen Henry, popularly known as YNW Bortlen, has been offered a deal for his alleged role in YNW Melly’s double homicide plot.
During a recent court appearance in Broward County, Judge Martin S. Fein explained that Florida prosecutors are willing to drop two first-degree murder charges if Henry agrees to plead no contest to six lesser counts. Those include accessory after the fact, conspiracy, witness tampering, and gang-related activity. If accepted, the plea would carry a sentence of 16 years and three months served concurrently, with time already spent in custody deducted from the total.
The charges stem from the 2018 deaths of Anthony “YNW Sakchaser” Williams and Christopher “YNW Juvy” Thomas Jr. Prosecutors believe YNW Melly, born Jamell Demons, was the triggerman, while Henry allegedly helped cover up the crime. Melly remains in jail awaiting a retrial following a mistrial earlier this year.
Judge Fein was clear about his role in the proceedings.
“I’m not here to pressure you into anything. My job is to make sure you understand the offer and that your decision is informed,” Fein stated. He advised Henry to speak with his attorneys and family before making a final decision.
The court also went through a checklist to confirm Henry’s ability to comprehend the plea, covering his education and mental health status. A follow-up hearing is scheduled for September 9th, just one day before trials in both cases are set to begin.
