The organizers responsible for a charity concert featuring the Chainsmokers were hit with a hefty bill that put thousands of attendees at risk for coronavirus exposure. The promoter fined will have to pay a staggering $20,000 for their wrongdoing.

In the Know Experiences, the production company was thrust into the spotlight when footage of the July 25th event swept across social media, showing large crowds of attendees at the Hamptons show not practicing social distancing or wearing masks.

“As I said immediately following reports of this event, it was an egregious violation of the critical public health measures we have had in place since the beginning of this pandemic to protect New Yorkers from COVID-19,” Andrew Cuomo said in a statement on Wednesday in reference to the promoters fined. “We will continue to hold people and businesses accountable for their actions and the local governments must enforce the rules or else we will hold them accountable as well.”

The governor took aim at the promoters for “holding a non-essential gathering and failure to enforce mask wearing.” The special event application submitted by the promoters was approved at the time because it included “numerous” measures to ensure that concertgoers were protected from spreading the virus. This included taking temperatures for guests and providing hand sanitizer. However, the state says that, “critically, the promoter’s Special Events Application omitted reference to a designated ‘friends and family’ section where concertgoers could freely congregate and where mask-wearing was not enforced.”

Additionally, over 2,150 people attended the concert, which was well above the number of allowed attendees.
