Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office

A Florida father was arrested after police say he showed up at a West Palm Beach middle school with a loaded pistol, according to a police report and local news coverage.

Police said 27 year old Christopher was charged with possession of a firearm on school property, aggravated assault and disruption of a school function after the incident at Bear Lakes Middle School on a Monday afternoon in March 2019. According to the report, his son called him crying and said a teacher had “slammed” him. The school has not been reported to have confirmed that claim, and it is not clear what happened.

The arrest affidavit says an assistant principal reported that Christopher made a threat during a phone call with the school. A school resource officer then reportedly saw a gun sticking out of his pants near the main office. The school was placed on lockdown. Police said the weapon was a loaded AK 47 Mini Draco pistol.

Christopher told police he was upset about the call from his son. He said he did not realize he had the gun on him when he walked in, that he carries it for protection and that he did not intend to hurt anyone, according to the report. He is presumed innocent of the charges.

He was being held on a $75,000 bond, according to local reports. Police said they planned to ask a judge to revoke it because of a separate case against him.
