North West is making it clear that her parents’ divorce is not the reason she dresses the way she does. The 13-year-old is pushing back against people connecting her blue hair, dark grills, and facial jewelry to Kim Kardashian and Ye’s highly publicized breakup.

During a recent TikTok livestream with Kim, North challenged the speculation surrounding her appearance.“Yeah, so you guys can’t say where the style came from? Is the style from the divorce? No queen. I don’t know what you’re talking about,” North stated in a clip.
Her remarks put a different spin on the conversation surrounding her appearance. Rather than letting people interpret her fashion choices as a sign of distress over her family’s history, North insisted that her look is simply her own.
Kim filed for divorce from Kanye in February 2021 after nearly seven years of marriage. Their divorce was finalized in 2022, following public disagreements over parenting and North’s presence on TikTok. The former couple also shares Saint, 10, Chicago, 8, and Psalm, 7.
The breakup has been a public topic throughout North’s childhood. In 2022, Ye objected to her appearing on TikTok, while Kim defended allowing their daughter to express her creativity with adult supervision.
Kim has also spoken about how the divorce affected her relationship with their oldest child. During a February 2025 episode of “The Kardashians,” she revealed that North had gone through a period of being upset with her before their bond improved.
“I think it was all the divorce,” Kim said at the time. “It’s insane, the turnaround.”
However, Kim’s comments concerned their mother-daughter relationship, not North’s wardrobe. North’s latest remarks make clear that she does not want viewers to treat every change in her appearance as evidence of how she feels about the split.
The conversation on TikTok went beyond divorce speculation. North also responded to people labeling her style “demonic” because of her accessories and dramatic makeup.
Kim backed up her daughter’s explanation, revealing that North had been experimenting with fake septum and eyebrow piercings since she was in pre-kindergarten. That would place her interest in unconventional accessories years before her parents’ marriage ended.
In an August interview with Dazed, North explained why piercings appeal to her.
“They just make you your full self. I really want to get my bridge pierced, but I’m not allowed,” she shared.
Kim has faced criticism from people who believe she gives North too much freedom with her appearance. During a January appearance on Khloé Kardashian’s “Khloé in Wonder Land” podcast, she rejected the suggestion that supporting her daughter’s style means she has abandoned parental boundaries.
“I think like the one misconception that people might have is like, ‘Oh, she’s trying to be her bestie and lets her get away with a lot.’ Like, no. Northy actually has a lot of rules,” Kim said. “The one area is I do let her express herself, and I do let her do that. I love her for that, and she would do it, you know, regardless.”
Ultimately, North wants people to stop treating her parents’ divorce as the explanation for her personal style. While her family’s history has played out publicly, she is making it clear that her fashion choices do not need an explanation rooted in her parents’ separation.
