Last week, R. Kelly sat down for an emotionally-charged interview with Gayle King to dispel “old rumors, new rumors, future rumors” about his alleged relations with underage girls. In the interview, Kelly also criticized his ex-wife, Andrea Kelly, for turning their children against him with her claims of alleged abuse, which, in turn, stopped his checks and the child support checks.
However, in response, Drea said the self-proclaimed Pied Piper stopped paying child support on his own accord, not because of financial ruin. According to Drea, Kelly cut her off to control her after she first spoke out about the alleged abuse.
In fact, according to TMZ, sources close to Kelly have confirmed the singer’s motive, and apparently, it’s all because he thinks she brainwashed their kids and ruined their relationship with him. According to the publication, the former couple last spoke in 2017 after a verbal altercation.
Eight years prior, the singer was ordered to cough up $20,933 per month for his kids with Drea. But after the argument, Kelly ran up a $160k bill in back child support, which resulted in his recent arrest.
While Kelly says Drea changed her phone number and stopped all contact between him and his kids after their 2017 fall out, Drea says he’s the one that changed his number. In addition to that, she has maintained that she’s open to Kelly reconnecting with their kids, but apparently, he hasn’t reached out.
