R. Kelly has pleaded not guilty to new federal bribery charges. According to Bossip, an indictment filed last month accuses the singer of paying off the accuser in an earlier case tied to an alleged videotape from the early 2000s.
Prosecutors allege in the indictment that the payoff included monthly payments, a new SUV, and $30,000 for the accuser’s father. Kelly denies the charges.
Kelly and two of his employees, Derrel and Milton, who are now named as co defendants, appeared in Chicago federal court this week for arraignment. All three pleaded not guilty, and the judge pushed back the start of Kelly’s trial to November 2020.
Kelly’s defense team also picked up a small win. The judge ruled that the government must turn over any records it obtains about witnesses’ mental health and drug history, and that evidence must be handed over at least 45 days before trial.
