R. Kelly Demands Removal of Chicago Prosecutors from His Case, Citing Corruption and Conspiracy

A new report claims that R. Kelly was placed on suicide watch after being found guilty of federal sex crimes last month in a New York courtroom.

According to The Chicago Tribune, the troubled singer’s attorney, Steve Greenberg, revealed in open court to U.S. District Judge Harry Leinenweber that the U.S. Bureau of Prisons placed Kelly on suicide watch for some time after his nullity verdict, but that has since been lifted.

The article notes that the procedure of putting a recently convicted prisoner under increased monitoring is common in the federal prison system, and Greenberg did not state that Kelly had ever expressed any actual desire to harm himself.

Kelly was found guilty of one count of racketeering rooted in alleged sexual exploitation of children, kidnapping, and forced labor, and eight counts of violating the Mann Act on September 27.

He is expected to be sentenced on May 4, 2022, and is looking at a mandatory minimum of 10 years up to life in prison and still awaits trial in another federal case in Chicago.
