Rapsody’s journey began in the small town of Snow Hill, North Carolina, far removed from the bustling hip-hop scenes of big cities. She was introduced to hip-hop through her older cousins, who played albums by legends like Nas, Jay-Z, and A Tribe Called Quest. Emulating their style, Rapsody developed a deep love for the genre, even down to mimicking their clothing.
Despite her passion, Rapsody initially struggled to find a way into the rap world. Without any connections to rappers or recording studios, she resorted to freestyling with a vacuum cleaner hose as a makeshift microphone. Although her brother discouraged her, she found solace in writing poetry, which kept her creative spirit alive.
College became a turning point for Rapsody. She joined a hip-hop organization, attending rap battles and learning from observing others. Her big break came when she met someone who introduced her to Ninth Wonder, the renowned hip-hop producer. This connection marked the beginning of her professional journey in music.
Reflecting on her Grammy nomination, Rapsody expressed her gratitude and described the overwhelming support she’s received. “I’ve been at this for a long time, and it’s rewarding to see my hard work pay off,” she shared. Ferrari praised her as the best female MC in the country. While Rapsody appreciated the compliment, she humbly acknowledged the presence of other great rappers in the industry.
