Friday’s overturning of Roe v. Wade eliminated the constitutional right to abortion in the US and has caused an uproar among a mass of Americans. The ruling has even triggered reactions from notable names like former President Barack Obama and forever First Lady Michelle Obama, Kelly Rowland, Ellen DeGeneres, Taylor Swift, Andy Cohen and more.
“Today, the Supreme Court not only reversed nearly 50 years of precedent, it relegated the most intensely personal decision someone can make to the whims of politicians and ideologues—attacking the essential freedoms of millions of Americans,” the former commander in chief said on Twitter Friday.
The former First Lady took to social media with a statement of her own. “I am heartbroken today. I am heartbroken for people around this country who just lost the fundamental right to make informed decisions about their bodies,” Obama wrote in a lengthy statement. “I am heartbroken that we may now be destined to learn the painful lessons of a time before Roe was made law of the land – a time when women risked losing their lives getting illegal abortions.”
TV producer Andy Cohen called Friday a sad day in “Twisted” America.
Popstar Taylor Swift retweeted Michelle Obama’s statement with a message of her own noting the decision to overturn Roe has stripped women’s rights to their own bodies.
Abbott Elementary star Quinta Brunson also shared her thoughts about the “many” other issues that should have been prioritized instead of “controlling a woman’s rights.”
