REFORM Alliance and Roc Nation Host Job Fair

In a significant push to reduce employment barriers for individuals impacted by the criminal justice system, REFORM Alliance and Roc Nation hosted a highly successful job fair in Richmond, Virginia.

The event attracted over 2,000 attendees and featured more than 1,500 open positions from 36 employers, including well-known companies like Amazon, Starbucks, Foot Locker, and local government agencies.

The goal of the job fair was to help individuals, particularly those on probation or parole, find meaningful work. Employers from the public, private, and nonprofit sectors participated, with local government agencies such as the Virginia Department of Corrections and Virginia Department of Transportation offering hundreds of positions.

In addition to on-site interviews, job seekers received valuable services like professional attire, resume reviews, interview prep, and grooming assistance. Law firm Reed Smith also provided information about expungement services, with support from law students and community organizations.

Virginia is currently facing a workforce shortage, and the job fair helped match people with available positions. Many of the employers were committed to second-chance hiring, offering opportunities to those with criminal records.

Jessica S., who attended the event after being recently released from incarceration, shared her thoughts: “It’s been hard finding work since I got out, but this event made a big difference. I’m really grateful for the chance to meet employers who are willing to give people like me a second chance.” She interviewed with Amazon and Foot Locker and was invited back for second-round interviews.

This job fair is part of REFORM Alliance’s broader efforts to support individuals on probation or parole by helping them access employment opportunities. The organization also works with local partners to provide critical services to people returning home from incarceration.

Jessica Jackson, CEO of REFORM Alliance, spoke about the importance of these efforts: “Helping people access employment opportunities is a key step toward building stronger communities. When we invest in individuals who have faced barriers, we create opportunities for everyone to thrive.”

Dania Diaz, Managing Director of Philanthropy at Roc Nation, added: “This event was about creating real opportunities for people who have been historically overlooked. It’s about giving individuals the tools to succeed and build a better future.”
