Retired Chicago Fire Department Lt. Dwain Williams was leaving a popcorn store in the Morgan Park section of Chicago on December 3rd when a car pulled up and screeched to a halt.

Four young men jumped out of the vehicle and began shooting at Williams, who was able to return fire from his own weapon before being struck in his abdomen.

According to People, the 65-year-old man was then rushed to a local area hospital and was pronounced dead.

Chicago police now have two teenagers in custody, charged in connection with the shooting death of the retired lieutenant during what police say was a failed attempt at carjacking.

Chicago Police Department announced that they arrested a 15-year-old whose name is being withheld and an 18-year-old both were charged with first-degree murder, among other charges.

Dwain Johnson, the 18-year-old suspect, originally from Gary, Indiana, was apprehended by the FBI’s Violent Crimes Task Force. He was also charged with aggravated attempted vehicular hijacking with a firearm, possession of a concealed weapon, and possession of a machine gun/automatic weapon.

Surveillance video released by Police showed the retired Williams walking to his own vehicle when a four-door Ford Fusion pulled up, and three males got out and rushed toward him.

After the suspects exchanged gunfire with Williams, mortally wounding him, they fled the scene.

Evidence recovered from the stolen car found near Tinley park helped police obtain arrest warrants for the 15-year-old and Johnson, Chief of Detectives Brendan Deenihan said, CBS 2 reports.

Sadly I report the death of retired CFD Lieutenant Dwain Williams. Who was shot during an apparent vehicle hijacking this afternoon. He retired from the job about 2 years ago at the age of 63. Our hearts are heavy tonight. (Langford) pic.twitter.com/Ze7jrifKoD
