A social media storm hit Washington quarterback Robert Griffin III in July 2013, just days after his wedding. None of the claims below have been confirmed, and they are presented here as reported.
According to Busted Coverage, a reader sent the site tweets and a screenshot posted by a young woman named Meredith. The screenshot allegedly showed text messages from a man identified as RGIII, sent around 1 a.m. on July 6, the day of his wedding. Busted Coverage also pointed out that Meredith had online connections to one of Griffin’s groomsmen.
The story then took a turn. Busted Coverage reported that Meredith asked the site to take the post down and said the claims were not true. Meanwhile, the groomsman, William, told the site the story was false. He said he was with Griffin that night, that no one was texting other women, and that Griffin has stayed committed to his wife. He also said Meredith had told him in messages that it was all a joke and that someone had grabbed her phone.
Griffin had not publicly addressed the claims at the time of this post. For now, it comes down to a screenshot nobody has verified, a woman who first posted it and then walked it back, and a friend who says it never happened.
