A Maryland judge has ruled that “The Real Housewives of Potomac” star Dr. Wendy Osefo and her husband, Eddie Osefo, will face separate trials as their ongoing fraud case moves forward.
The couple appeared in Carroll County Circuit Court on Wednesday, March 4, where court records show both waived their right to a speedy trial within 180 days of their initial court appearance. The decision means the spouses will no longer be tried together as previously expected.
According to the Carroll County Circuit Court Clerk’s Office, neither Wendy nor Eddie entered a plea during the hearing. A status conference for both cases is currently scheduled for May 20.
The legal trouble began in October 2025 when the couple was arrested and charged with insurance fraud, conspiracy to commit insurance fraud, and making a false statement to a police officer. Authorities booked the pair in Westminster, Maryland, before releasing them after each posted a $50,000 bond.
At the time of their arrest, a representative for the couple said they planned to fight the allegations.
“Dr. Wendy Osefo and her husband, Edward Osefo, are back home safely with their family and in good spirits,” the rep said. “They are grateful for the outpouring of concern and support from friends, fans, and colleagues. The Osefos, alongside their legal team, look forward to their day in court.”
Investigators began examining the couple’s claims after the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported burglary at their home in April 2024. Wendy and Eddie told deputies they returned from a trip to Jamaica and discovered their bedroom and closets had been ransacked, with designer handbags and jewelry missing.
Authorities later alleged that several items reported as stolen had previously been purchased and returned for refunds before the burglary claim was made. Investigators also obtained emails that they say discussed adding high-value items to the insurance inventory.
Court documents also state that investigators believed the couple was facing significant debt at the time of the alleged scheme.
Wendy has pushed back against the charges. She previously accused authorities of conducting an illegal arrest and filed motions seeking to suppress evidence tied to the investigation.
During BravoCon in November 2025, the reality star briefly addressed the situation.
“I read your messages. I can’t respond to everyone, but your love and support mean the world to me,” she said. “You know, it’s an unfortunate situation, and right now I can’t say too much, but I will say when the time is right, I will share my story with everyone, and for now they’re just allegations, so we will continue to push forward.”
