Britney Spears’ DUI arrest is now prompting a response from her representative, who says the singer plans to take accountability following the incident.
Spears, 44, was arrested near her home in Ventura County, California, on Wednesday, March 4, at 9:28 p.m., according to online police records. Authorities booked her early Thursday morning at 3:02 a.m., and she was released at 6:07 a.m. Spears is scheduled to appear in court on May 4.
Shortly after the news surfaced, Spears’ representative released a statement addressing the situation and emphasizing that the singer is taking the matter seriously.
“This was an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable,” the rep said. “Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law, and hopefully this can be the first step in long-overdue change that needs to occur in Britney’s life. Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time.”
The representative also revealed that Spears’ family plans to rally around her following the arrest.
“Her loved ones are going to come up with an overdue, needed plan to set her up for success for well-being,” the rep added.
Spears’ sons, Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden James, 19, are also expected to spend time with her soon. She shares both sons with her ex-husband, Kevin Federline, with whom she was married from 2004 until 2007.
A source close to the family told Us Weekly that those around Spears are hoping the incident becomes a turning point.
“I hope this is a wake-up call for her,” the source said.
Spears has faced intense public scrutiny for years. Her father, Jamie Spears, placed her under a conservatorship in 2008 after a widely publicized breakdown during her divorce from Federline. That legal arrangement, which controlled many aspects of her personal and financial life, was officially terminated by a Los Angeles judge in 2021.
Since the conservatorship ended, Spears has continued navigating life outside the court-ordered structure while remaining in the public spotlight.
